childhood
Childhood is a beautiful illusion that all of us want to go back to. Almost all of the Romantics lamented about their long lost past and lone gone childhood. A constant longing to be carefree and careless. Rather than the scoldings here and the annual exams in a way tormenting the light off the kids..they dont have deadlines to meet and targets to complete. This is a two way road too. As Freud would say as much as the elders want to trace back to their childhood, the child too want to run off to a future taht is awaiting them ...to find out that there is nothing exemplary there like they thought. When I was a kid every guests who came to our school for Christmas celebration would constantly lecture about the importance of childhood. How they wish to ho back in time to the 'good old days' which now we understand there was nothing like those 'good' old days. It's all an illusion. A mirage that appears beautiful from a distance. All these years even it is adulthood or childhood it has got its own hardships as well as fruits. But now what happens is that many are forcing children out of their childhood. Mainly in the modeling industry, where kids are drugged up to cater the gaze of the society. The voyeristic fangs of the public feeds on the innocence of these children. This is a serious issue. And mainly it is the girl child who gets more affected in this hullabaloo. Ofcourse from the day they are born an average magnitude of Indian females are constantly reminded of the 'fact' that they are go from their family to some stranger's house and should know how to do the household chores etc etc. All these chores must be taught in the light of existential thought. One must know to cook and wash and keep stuffs clean etc.. this is applicable to all the kids and not just girls so that all can survive in this world. Girls are usually forced out of their childhood from the early stages of their adolescence itself. They are marked as 'more' mature than boys even from the age of ten or so they are pried off their childhood and are groomed to satisfy the eyes of the public that does nothing but criticize them. Boys are also consumed in this. From the early stages of their life itself they are constantly reminded of their 'role' as the 'bread winner' in the future. Of course they are robbed off their childhood. It is not once or twice that I have heard my mom reprimanding my brother to not cry or dont show that 'you are afraid' or go do stuffs that are supposedly manly etc because the child happened to be a 'boy' and he is supposed to act like one according to her. So what if he cries? So what if he is afraid of spiders ? So what if he is terrified of darkness? That doesn't make him any less of a person that he is. Behave like a boy behave like a girl damn fucking get thrashed around and be silenced like one OFCOURSE! That's what happened to many and you would want your child to be one among the millions too. More than fine because patriarchy that is being channelled through your parents is to be taken without another word. If you are this concerned for your kids to act accordingly then make them act like kids for once! The new media and science influence and accelarate this growth even more. Irony is that it is this same adults who laments about their long gone childhood pries today's children off their innocence and childhood.
